Delicious And Nutritious Homemade Smoothies For All Ages

More and more parents are discovering the amazing advantages of giving homemade smoothies to their kids as part of breakfast or a snack substitute. Giving your kids smoothies is an excellent way to make sure their diet is healthy. And not to mention, it’s also a great way to teach your kids about different kinds of ingredients and get them to participate in the preparation.

Unlike with fruit juices where you only get the juice, one of the best advantages of drinking smoothies is you consume the whole fruit, including the pulp. The pulp provides an excellent source of fiber which promotes better digestive health. The pulp is also the main factor why smoothies are filling.

You can make fruit smoothies according to your preference or depending on which ingredients are available. Milk and yogurt are perfect if you want to make your fruit smoothies thicker and creamier. If you worry about the fat content, you can choose milk alternatives like soy milk and rice milk over regular cow’s milk. For sweeteners, you can use organic honey or stevia instead of sugar.

Smoothies are one of the most versatile drinks in the world. Aside from using fruits, which we are all familiar with, we can also include vegetables. That’s good news to us parents, especially if getting our kids to eat their veggies pose as a challenging task. If you have picky kids, you can sneak some healthy greens into their fruit smoothies without them knowing it. If they really like the taste, you can tell them later on. Here’s a short list of my tried-and-tested choices: spinach, broccoli, carrots, celery, pumpkin, cucumber, and asparagus.

Homemade smoothies are also perfect for dessert. Most people prefer chocolate in their dessert smoothies. I’m sure your kids will enjoy drinking chocolate smoothies. Instead of giving them chocolate bars with high calorie and high sugar content, you can serve them delicious choco smoothies made from nutritious raw cacao and sweetened with organic honey.

Smoothies are not exclusive for kids and health buffs. I’m sure you and your friends will enjoy some cocktail smoothies that will liven up any gathering. Gin, rum or vodka goes well with orange or pineapple smoothies. Or you might want to try making a mojito mint smoothie, a banana colada, or strawberry margarita. You can also charge your smoothie with coffee if your body needs a bit of perking up.

There are many ways to make your smoothies. If you want to amaze your kids with awesome treats or delight your friends with creative concoctions, I highly recommend this book called “Sensational Smoothies: Drink Your Way To Health Deliciously”. This wonderful ebook contains over 180 smoothie recipes that I’m sure both kids and grownups will enjoy. Find out more about it here: http://www.sensationalsmoothies.com
